Easternwell grants program supports Roxby Downs community groups

Community groups in the Roxby Downs region have received more than $4,500 through the latest round of community grants from Easternwell, a subsidiary of Broadspectrum.

Much needed funds are going to a variety of groups including Andamooka Progress & Opal Miners Association, Roxby Downs Family Forum and Roxby Downs Sport and Recreation.

Member of Roxby Downs Family Forum, Ines Badman said the grant was used towards a family movie and game night.

“Roxby Downs is a remote and transient community. The family movie and game night encourage the community to come together to meet new people and expand their social support networks.”

Andamooka Progress & Opal Miners Association was another local recipient who received a grant to purchase building materials for a shade structure.

Secretary Gill Rowley said, “The shade structure will provide better shelter and comfort for the 1,200 visitors per year to the Andamooka Caravan and Camping Ground.”

Roxby Downs Sport and Recreation Forum was another local recipient who received a grant to assist with the development of a community pump track.

Secretary Rebecca Cooke said, “The grant will help us develop a multi-purpose pump track to cater for a variety of ages, skill levels and riders from balance bikes, skateboard, longboard, BMX, scooter and mountain bikes, providing a safe place for young people to ride.”

Easternwell has provided more than $10,000 to 6 community groups in the Roxby Downs region.

Easternwell’s Executive General Manager, Tim Phelan, said the program was specifically developed to provide much needed support to local organisations that do so much in our communities.

“There are countless community groups, clubs and associations in our operating areas who provide important services to their communities.”

“Easternwell is focused on supporting the regions where we conduct business and our grants program is one of the ways we are creating lasting benefits for community members who count on the vital support of these organisations in their day to day lives.”

The next round of Easternwell Community Grants opens June 2019. Eligible groups may apply for funding of up to $2,000. For more information visit www.easternwell.com.au/communitygrants
