Grants program supports Roxby Downs community groups

Community groups in the Roxby Downs region have received more than $5,500 through the latest round of community grants from Easternwell, a subsidiary of Broadspectrum.

Much needed funds are going to a variety of groups including Roxby Downs Scout Group, Roxby Downs Golf Club and Roxby Desert Motor Cross Club.

Secretary of Roxby Downs Scout Group, Michelle Casserly said the grant was used to assist with costs for members to attend major camps.

“The grant will assist our Cub Scouts and Scouts attend their district camp in September and our Joey Scouts attend their national camp in November. Camps provide an opportunity for young people to participate in a variety of activities that encourage self-development and team work.”

Karratha Community House was another local recipient who received a grant to purchase an
interactive smart board for their early literacy and numeracy program.

Roxby Downs Golf Club was another local recipient who received a grant to assist with the club’s kitchen refurbishment.

Vice-Captain Robert Charman said, “We are an 18-hole golf course and our clubhouse is also home to the Roxby Downs Dart League and the Olympic Dam Barbarians Rugby team. The refurbishment of the club’s kitchen allows us to continue to support our local sporting clubs and provide a suitable venue to hire for work and social functions.”

Further demonstrating Easternwell’s commitment to the Roxby Downs region, Clint Gow-Smith from Roxby Desert Motor Cross Club said their grant was used to purchase steel and fittings to extend the club’s shade area.

“The extension to the club’s shade area will greatly improve our facilities for our family fun days and race events with our annual major events attracting up to 2,000 spectators from across South Australia and interstate.”

Easternwell’s Executive General Manager, Tim Phelan, said the program was specifically developed to provide much needed support to local organisations that do so much in our communities.

“There are countless community groups in the areas where we operate who provide important services to their communities.”

“Easternwell is passionate about supporting the regions where we conduct business and our grants program is one of the ways we are creating lasting benefits for communities.”

Since the launch of the grass roots initiative in 2011, Easternwell has provided more than $320,000 to 201 community groups that support activities in the areas of education, health, indigenous, safety and youth.

The next round of Easternwell Community Grants opens June 2018. Eligible groups may apply for funding of up to $2,000. For more information visit
