Easternwell secures A$90 million in contracts with QGC Pty Ltd

Easternwell, Australia’s leading drilling and well servicing company and subsidiary of Transfield Services, has strengthened its relationship with QGC by securing $90 million of new work.

As part of this agreement, Easternwell will construct, deliver and manage three new rigs which includes a two-year $40 million contract for a heavy drilling rig for the Tight Gas Sand project in the Bowen Basin as well a $50 million contract for two advantage light well servicing rigs for the continued maintenance of QGC’s well program in the Surat Basin.

Construction on the first drilling rig for the Tight Gas Sand project has already commenced and is expected to be operational by mid-2014. Its innovative design represents the latest technology in well drilling services. The rig is equipped with latest generation rig automation technology to eliminate many of personnel hazards typically associated with drilling. This rig is also designed for enhanced mobility and minimised environmental footprint.

The two advantage light well servicing rigs will be constructed in Toowoomba and will mobilise to site in the second half of 2014. When completed, they will provide highly mobile pump replacements, well repair and cleanout services.

This new scope of work further bolsters Easternwell’s presence in the Queensland market with over 14 rigs currently operating in the Surat and Bowen Basins. Furthermore, with over 65 per cent of its 1,200 strong workforce from rural Queensland, these contracts will mean an additional 56 crew positions on the new rigs.

Easternwell’s Chief Operating Officer Darren Greer said, “The delivery of these three new rigs for QGC will further develop Easternwell’s strong presence in Queensland and extend its portfolio of long standing relationships with Australia’s largest resource and energy companies.

“Furthermore, this is a testament to the successful relationship between Easternwell and QGC and is a significant addition to the well servicing operations we have been undertaking for them over the last three years.”
