Supporting a national day of action for suicide awareness

Easternwell is supporting R U OK? Day as a way to remind employees that having meaningful conversations with mates and loved ones could save lives.

R U OK? Day is a national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that we’ve all got what it takes to ask, “are you ok?” and support those struggling with life. Taking part can be as simple as learning R U OK?’s four steps so you can have a conversation that could change a life.

Conversations that are geared towards helping people feel loved, supported and connected do make a difference. When family and friends show tolerance and understanding, it can make it easier for people to speak up, access help if needed, and access it early.

Easternwell hosted a morning tea to bring employees together to talk about R U OK’s four steps and inspire people to start these conversations every day of the year.

Easternwell’s Wellness Coordinator, Liam Brennan said that participating in R U OK? Day was an opportunity for the company to highlight the importance of looking out for one another and knowing the signs when someone might need extra support.

“Supporting events like RUOK? Day help start conversations around mental health and suicide. It provides us with the tools to go out and ask our friends, family and loved ones if they are okay, and what to do if they aren’t. It may seem simple and intuitive but often it is a conversation that most of us will avoid without the encouragement of events like R U OK? Day.”

Easternwell plans to continue supporting RUOK? Day in coming years, with the goal of expanding our presentations and initiatives to our employees in the field. As a not-for-profit organisation, R U OK? provides valuable support in our community to connect and protect people from suicide.
