Grants program supports Toowoomba community groups

Community groups in the Toowoomba region have received more than $20,000 through the latest round of community grants from Easternwell, a subsidiary of Broadspectrum.

Much needed funds are going to a variety of groups including Downs Industry Schools Co-Op, Cabarlah Pony Club, The Haven Association, YWCA Queensland, Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, Toowoomba Clubhouse Association, Friends of the Toowoomba City Library Association, Base Services, Safer Toowoomba Regional Partnership, AEIOU Foundation, Toowoomba South Little Athletics, Kingsthorpe State School P & C Association, Cambooya Public Hall Association, Crows Nest Pony Club and Lions Club of Westbrook.

YWCA Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer Kate Tully said that the grant will allow us to purchase essential catering items for our REAP Project.

“The REAP program collects good, surplus food from local donors and delivers free of charge to local charity organisations for redistribution to people in need. Our REAP project also provides skills and training opportunities to women to enter the workforce more broadly contributing to our vision of empowering women to find their possible”.

Further demonstrating Easternwell’s commitment to the Toowoomba region, Tiffany Spary from Base Services said their grant will be used to purchase shelving for donated clothes and blankets.

“Base Services is a not-for-profit organisation that provides free meals, a friendly face and access to essential services for people who are homeless or at high risk of homelessness.”

Since the launch of the grass roots initiative in 2011, Easternwell has provided more than $89,000 to 61 groups in the Toowoomba region.

Easternwell’s Executive General Manager, Tim Phelan, said the program was developed to provide much needed support to local organisations that do so much in our communities.

“There are countless community groups in the areas where we operate who provide important services to their communities.”

“Easternwell is passionate about supporting the regions where we conduct business and our grants program is one of the ways we are creating lasting benefits for communities.”

The next round of Easternwell Community Grants opens June 2017. Eligible groups may apply for funding of up to $2,000. For more information visit
