Easternwell supports Surat Basin

Kogan & District Rural Fire Brigade has been announced as one of the six groups in the Surat Basin to receive grant funding from Easternwell, one of Australia’s leading drilling and well servicing companies and subsidiary of Transfield Services, in recognition of its valued contribution to the region.

The not-for-profit organisation received $1,650 through Easternwell’s community grants program to further strengthen its hazard reduction project and public awareness program – a program which sees 30 members volunteer their time to protect and educate the community during natural disasters.

Kogan & District Rural Fire Brigade’s Secretary and Treasurer, Vicki Searle, said “We are a volunteer-based organisation and therefore the minimal funding we receive goes towards day-to-day expenses and ordinary basics. Easternwell’s grant has given us the funding we need to purchase new handheld radios for our Brigade members.

“The radio will make a huge difference with fire management and situational awareness. It is also a great way to reward our Brigade members and make their job a little easier.

“To some organisations the funding we received may not seem like much, but we feel very fortunate and thankful as it will greatly assist us in ensuring safe, reliable communication between firefighters at all times.”

Since the launch of the grass-roots initiative in 2011, Easternwell has provided over $62,000 to more than 35 groups in the Surat Basin

Easternwell’s Chief Operating Officer, Tim Phelan, said “the grants program was designed to shine a light on the groups and associations that are making a difference in their community, but are in need of a helping hand.

“Easternwell is passionate about supporting the regions where we conduct business and our grants program is one of the ways we are creating lasting benefits for these communities.

“Over the years we have provided grant funding to more than 110 groups throughout Australia which has enabled them to grow their services to benefit the wider community.”

Applications for the Easternwell Community Grants Program are assessed twice a year and must be received before 14 September 2014. Eligible groups may apply for funding up to $2,000.
