Diamond drilling for geotechnical investigation

Easternwell’s Gorey and Cole team has been diamond drilling 400-500 meter HQ holes at Olympic Dam for geotechnical investigation with the first two holes successfully completed.

The crew have remained incident free working a 24-hour campaign achieving 17.34 metres per shift.

The geotechnical information gained from diamond drilling will provide our client with detailed information on the formation that will be used to develop the construction methodology for upcoming raise bores.

Wire line diamond drilling is a continuous drilling technique used to remove core samples from the hole that can be sampled and analysed by geologist and engineers, before geophysical logging the hole.

Two additional holes have been added to the current program due to the quality of the information received, and the safe operation of rig crew.
