Karratha Badminton Club

In desperate need of an upgrade, Karratha Badminton Club received an Easternwell Community Grant to fund their new badminton nets. In a town like Karratha, where the weather can reach in excess of 40 degrees, indoor sports such as badminton are essential to promoting healthy and active lifestyles in the community. The club aims to lift their playing and professional standing to a level where it is recognised as strong, vibrant and multicultural.

Onslow Community Gardens

Officially opening in 2012, the Onslow Community Garden supports active and healthy lifestyles by providing access to fresh fruit and vegetables and exercise through their cultivation. Maintained solely by volunteers, the garden is vital to fostering community spirit and engagement. Easternwell helped the garden buy new seedlings to expand its range of plants available.

Beck Street Kindergarten

Through our community grants program, Easternwell assisted Beck Street Kindergarten in Dalby to construct a new interactive outdoor play area for their pre-prep and kindergarten children. The play area focuses on discovery and learning in the natural world and features small boulders, a water discovery wall, children’s wheelbarrows, a conveyor belt, sturdy spades, rakes and play boxes.

QuoCKa

Quota International Toowoomba launched its program ‘Quota, Cops and Kids Reading Together’ (QuoCKa) initiative after an Easternwell Community Grant helped them purchase new books for each child and school library at Harristown State School. The project encourages the development of literacy skills and enables students to interact and engage with local police, who relish the opportunity to act as positive role models in young people’s lives.

Dampier Primary School

Focused on improving literacy levels, Dampier Primary School received an Easternwell Community Grant to purchase take-home literacy backpacks aimed at supporting busy parents by demonstrating the range of books their children should be exposed to. The backpacks also contained detailed lists of questioning techniques and activities to accompany the books, all designed to encourage parents’ involvement in their children’s learning.

Newman Scout Group

The Newman Scout Group is run soley by volunteers and received an Easternwell Community Grant in support of their efforts to give kids the confidence they need to succeed into adulthood. As part of those efforts, the group used their grant funds to purchase archery and pioneering equipment in order to expand the range of activities and new skills they have to offer young people in the region.

Highfields MenShed

The MenShed movement aims to reconnect men with each other, the 'natural habitat' (the humble shed) and help overcome the barriers they face in acting on their health issues. Highfields MenShed used their community grant to purchase tools and equipment vital to the group's goals and continued expansion.

Moonie State School

A hub for local communities to gather around, Moonie State School needed a new PA system to assist with school and community events. Their Easternwell Community Grant allowed the school to upgrade to a portable PA system, greatly enhancing the school's capability to stage assemblies, community meetings and will enable larger scale events like fetes and open days.

Hedland SES

Situated in prime cyclone territory, the Hedland SES needs the best equipment available. Easternwell awarded the organisation a community grant to fit-out their new operations room which is to be constructed by the local community, significantly improving the SES's response capabilities.

Second Toowoomba Scout Group

Scouts have a long and proud history in Australia and the Second Toowoomba Scout Group continue to equip children and young adults with the skills they need to develop self-confidence, social and outdoor capabilities. Their Easternwell Community Grant enabled the group to purchase new canoes to help local children's water competence.

Northbridge's Children's Services Support

With a strong focus on empowering families in remote areas, the Northbridge’s Children’s Services Support Unit was awarded funding from Easternwell to transport computers to regional communities. This service ensured hard to reach community groups and families has access to support via online counselling services and other educational programs.

Gemfield Rural Fire Brigade

Since the early 1970s, the Gemfield Rural Fire Brigade, a not-for-profit organisation in Central Queensland, has been working alongside local emergency services fighting fires. Our funding assisted the Brigade in the upgrading their training procedures ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge required in case of an emergency.

Dalby South State School's Special Education Program

Through our community grants program, Easternwell provided the Dalby South State School’s Special Education Program with funds to purchase specialised equipment to ensure children with Physical Impairments can effectively and comfortably participate in learning activities. Based in Dalby, the Special Education Program provides educational support and therapeutic interventions for young children with developmental delays or diagnosis of specific disabilities.

Toowoomba City Care

The Toowoomba City Care is run predominantly by volunteers and provides essential services and programs to people in Toowoomba and surrounding towns who are at risk of homelessness or who are homeless. The not-for-profit organisation used the funding to purchase a new barbeque to expand it facilitates to cater for the 40 to 60 meals serviced each day. The barbeque is also being used at community events, raising much needed funds for the organisation.

Wallumbilla Girl Guides

In a remote region like Wallumbilla, there are limited recreational activities for young girls. The Wallumbilla Girl Guides was developed to fill this void and offer a wide range of educational and enjoyable activities for girls growing up in Roma and surrounding areas. Funding received through Easternwell’s community grants program was used to purchase safety equipment for development camps and activities.

St Patricks Parish School

Due the damage caused by the 2012 floods in Mitchel, St Patricks Parish School library lost a large percent of its take home readers. Through the community grants program, Easternwell provided the library with funding to purchase new books and resources.
